Education and research are both a large part of our program. While it is impossible to know everything, there is always an evidence-based ‘why’ behind what we do and how we operate.
All of our dams and sires who are apart of our breeding program are tested per the recommendations of the Dachshund Club of America. This means that they are not only genetically tested for inheritable diseases like PRA, but are also physically examined by experienced licensed veterinarians with a focus on their hearts and patellas as well as an ACVO-certified veterinary ophthalmologist who does an in-depth look at both eyes under dilation. These results are then submitted to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for certification and registration in their public database. This testing is important when breeding as these are some common problem areas for Dachshunds and we want to do everything we can to ensure we aren't breeding genetic issues that can be passed to the puppies we produce. We use our health testing results to make educated decisions when pairing a dam and a sire. We do offer a 2-year ‘life-threatening’ genetic health guarantee for each of our puppies.
Our puppies are born inside of our home and raised underfoot as a part of our family. During whelping and the first 3 to 4 weeks of life, our dams and their litters are kept close to us in our bedroom. Puppies are then moved to a grow-out pen in our living room where they can be the center of attention and in the middle of all household happenings. All of our puppies go home on a spay/neuter contract. They are pre-registered with limited AKC and do not leave our care until 10 weeks of age. We do this for several important reasons including the benefit to their socialization as well as the benefit of having them vaccinated and examined twice by our licensed veterinarian. To not contribute to drug-resistant parasitic strains, we do not routinely deworm our puppies. We do annual and as-needed fecals on our adult dogs and two individual fecal tests on our puppies prior to them leaving our care. Should we get a positive result, we then treat appropriately under the care of our veterinarian. A puppy will not be cleared to leave our care without a negative fecal test and health clearance from our veterinarian. We also microchip all of our puppies and register them through AKC Reunite for new owners. For the protection of our family, dogs, puppies, and other animals, we do NOT allow visits to our home unless you have been through our approval process, paid the non-refundable reservation fee, and agree to our visiting terms. Under no circumstance will visits be allowed prior to 8 weeks of age to allow for the puppies' first set of vaccinations given at 6 weeks of age to begin to take effect. We are happy to offer FaceTime calls for anyone interested to provide peace of mind when deciding to choose us as breeders. Puppies will be sent home with a 30-day pet insurance trial through Trupanion, a puppy pack that includes items to help during their travel to their new home, a 4lb bag of The Honest Kitchen Puppy Blend food, a Snuggle Puppy, Thunderease Pheromone spray, a blanket that smells like mom, a Welcome Home folder containing important information that includes their veterinary records, and other various items.
If you are interested in obtaining a puppy from us, whether now or in the future, we require that you review our Puppy Purchase Agreement and also fill out our Puppy Application. Once received and reviewed, we will contact you for further discussion and to answer any questions that you may have for us. When a puppy selection is made, we require a $500 non-refundable reservation fee to pull the selected puppy from all advertising efforts and reserve it. This reservation fee will be applied to the entire cost of the puppy. We accept payments through Zelle or Good Dog. We highly prefer to go through Good Dog for all payments due to the verification process and the guaranteed payment protection they provide both Breeder and Buyer that other platforms do not offer.
