Who We Are
We are a small family-owned and operated breeder located in Zebulon, NC. Here at Salt of the Earth Dachshunds we pride ourselves on honesty, quality, responsible breeding, and producing healthy, well-rounded AKC miniature longhair dachshunds. We prefer to keep our program small, only producing a few litters a year, in order to ensure that each of our dogs and puppies produced receive the care and attention they deserve.
Meet the Breeders
We are Shane & Megan Zofnas. Originally from Florida, but relocated to the beautiful Carolinas in 2011 and haven't looked back! We have been married for 18 years and have 5 children. Shane and I share a deep adoration for the Dachshund breed and want to share that with others through our breeding program. We strive to set ourselves apart from other breeding programs by not cutting corners and doing the recommended health testing to ensure to the best of our ability that we are not breeding common health issues for the breed into the puppies we produce in our program.
Our Breeding Process
We take great pride in our breeding process, which starts with carefully selected breeding pairs. We only breed Dachshunds that meet our high standards for health, temperament, and conformation. Our Dachshunds are raised in a loving and nurturing environment, eat a premium diet, are health tested per the Dachshund Club of America recommendations, and receive regular veterinary care and socialization.
